The Moon Odyssey — Kay Synclaire Guest Post!
Hello Ezeekat Crew!
Kay here. Jaysen was so gracious as to allow me to talk with you on his blog. Thanks, Jay.
Firstly, I want to thank the Ezeekat community for the love you’ve shown House of Frank. Thereception I’ve gotten since its release has been so overwhelming, in the best way possible. I can’t believe that so many of you care about the little worlds I create, and my little sad, gay characters, and the various predicaments I put them in.
House of Frank, Bindery, Jaysen, and you all have changed my life in such an amazing way. I can’t even begin to describe. Just know that you’ve all supported the notion that we can accomplish literally anything we set our mind to, and if you want to make art for a living, you can absolutely do so.
Which brings me to my next project… The Moon Odyssey.
If any of you have followed me on social media, you would know that I’ve spent a majority of the past year working on an indie animated series with my sister, and my now team of 20+ artists animators, voice actors, and composers.
The Moon Odyssey is a comedy-adventure webseries about an estranged family of space pilots who are searching through deep space for their lost family member. We follow our protagonist, Jamie Moon, who is still recovering from the loss of her mother, the universally renowned space pilot, Joy Moon. When her mother inexplicably passed, Jamie and her two other siblings split up and went their separate ways. While her older sister, Liz, chose to follow in their mother’s footsteps, and her brother, Randy, fell into bounty hunting, Jamie chose to leave it all behind and seclude herself in her family’s old A.I. space ship, MIA.
The story begins when Jamie’s niece and nephews show up on her doorstep, telling her that their mother, Liz, went on a deep space expedition and hadn’t come back. And so the adventure begins with a reluctant Jamie traversing through space with her sister’s kids and her estranged brother in order to save a sister she hasn’t spoken to in years.
Shockingly enough, this story is born from grief. My mother passed in December 2020, and similar to the Moon family, it fractured my family. My sister and I created this story as a way to honor our mother, Joy, while also creating a world of magic and wonder where Black women are given centerstage. This story had been building for years between car rides, grocery store runs, and late night chats after my sister’s kids had gone to bed. The Moon Odyssey is a story about a family coming together again after betrayal and loss, and it’s told through loads of humor, soft moments, and tons of great music.
I’ve always been a huge fan of animation. It has a very unique way of storytelling that really digs into my heart. We’ve been working so hard this past year building our team and our studio from the ground up, and it’s all thanks to you all here subscribed to Ezeekat Press.
We’re currently in pre-production of our pilot, but we’ve released our extended show opening that can be found on our Youtube here: The Moon Odyssey Show Opening
We’re also in the midst of our Kickstart campaign to help fund the pilot, and the subsequent episodes to follow. We hope when the show is released (we’re aiming for Winter 2026 for the release of the pilot) that you like what you see, be inspired by what you hear, and love what you feel.
Below are some images from the show production. We have an amazing team of artists, and we couldn’t possibly be able to do this without them.
